gc user is still alive

GC user now has 1300 users, and the cheapo hosting that  it was on before just doesn’t cut it any more.

Jalal is in the process of transferring gcuser from the  old clunky DNN windows server to a new sparkly sever, and content management system.

The data is all safe, its all very tedious back end stuff, and the end user experience should be much the same,  probaby just a different colour.

multitouch train platform

here’s a little flick through a sequence of how a multi touch floor could work in a train station to make the experience “well betta’ ”

There have been plenty of examples of people using multi touch displays for useful and interesting things, but the idea behind this totally ignores the practical things like the cost element of having hundreds of beamers and a server farm to rival Google, and just goes for the hope that something cool might come from the thought experiment (such is the nature of architectural education)

the experiment continues

upon getting stuck into any seemingly simple problem, more complicated things always seem to arise.

I think I’ll get something at least a little bit useful out of this soon though.

lots of tests and diagrams after this Read the rest of this entry »

the experiment

In order to make any sort of meaningful map or information visualisation, I think you need a lot of data, especially when it is related to the unpredictable nature of humans.

Manually capturing that much information is for people with more time and patience than me.

I’d like to start out by pointing out two things. I have no idea where this will lead to, and that there is an ulterior educational motive at work – I don’t know how to do any of this so I thought I’d get down to it and learn.

I’d like to measure how long it takes for people in a fairly uninteresting area of street to pass from one side of the cameras frame to the other, and then make subtle changes to the environment to see if this affected their behavior.

Changes like lines marking territory, the addition of mirrors, blasts of hot air etc. might or might not affect the behavior of the people passing. Read the rest of this entry »

I’m not ignoring you!

If anyone tries calling me in the next few days, there is only a very tiny chance that I will pick up.

I’ve cracked the screen on my phone, and as it was in silent mode when it happened, the only way I can tell if someone is calling is by the screen flashing.

It’s a pretty good indicator of my current mental state that when i first saw it, I thought that I’d been sent a really beautiful picture of a leaf.
